Distribution and spatio-temporal biomass trends of red mullets across the Mediterranean ArchiMer
Tserpes, George; Massutí, Enric; Fiorentino, Fabio; Facchini, Maria Teresa; Viva, Claudio; Jadaud, Angelique; Joksimovic, Aleksandar; Pesci, Paola; Piccinetti, Corrado; Sion, Letizia; Thasitis, Ioannis; Vrgoc, Nedo.
The present work examines the spatio-temporal biomass trends of Mullus barbatus and Mullus surmuletus in the Mediterranean Sea through the analysis of a time series of data coming from the Mediterranean International Trawl Surveys (MEDITS), accomplished annually from 1994 to 2015. The biomass of both species showed clear declining trends below 150 to 200 m depth, which were steeper in the case of M. barbatus. Increases in temporal biomass trends were observed for M. barbatus from 2008 onward in most geographic sub-areas (GSAs), while stability was mostly observed for M. surmuletus. For both species, dynamic factor analysis revealed similarities among neighbouring GSAs and the subsequent cluster analysis identified two major GSA groups corresponding to the...

Distribution characteristic and variation trend of planktonic dinoflagellate in the Taiwan Strait from 2006 to 2007. OceanDocs
Lin, Gengming; Yang, Qingliang; Lin, Weihan; Wang, Yu.
Based on 4 cruise surveys from July 2006 to October 2007 in the Taiwan Strait, the species composition, community structure and spatio-temporal distribution of dinoflagellate were studied. A total of 131 dinoflagellates belonging to 18 genera were identified. The population was dominated by hyperthermal and hyperhaline species accounting for 72.52% of the total species. Eurythermal and euryhaline species were the second most common one accounting for 25.19% of the total species. It was only 2.29% for neritic species. The maximum species number occurred in summer, while the maximum cell density appeared in spring. The average dinoflagellate cell density was 404.96×104 cells/m3. It showed that the dinoflagellate cell density increased from the nearshore...

Distribution des tailles de homard (Homarus gammarus L.) le long des côtes bas-normandes ArchiMer
Bertrand, Jacques.
Observations on lobsters catch with pots along the coasts of Basse-Normadie prove that large variations in the distribution of weight appear on adjoining zones. Influence of factors as environement, particularly substrat and tide, as also fishing effort are analysed. Effects of the evolutions in the year of animals catchability are also expected.

Distribution, encounter rates, and habitat characteristics of toothed cetaceans in the Bay of Biscay and adjacent waters from platform-of-opportunity data ArchiMer
Kiszka, Jeremy; Macleod, Kelly; Van Canneyt, Olivier; Walker, Dylan; Ridoux, Vincent.
Data on the distribution and habitat utilization of oceanic marine mammals are difficult to collect and yet such information is beneficial for many conservation and management purposes. Data collected during ferry-based cetacean surveys in the English Channel and Bay of Biscay between 1998 and 2002 were analysed to investigate the distribution, encounter rate, and habitat characteristics of toothed cetaceans there. In all, 17 873 nautical miles were surveyed, and 1008 encounters of 13 identified species, including delphinids, ziphiids, harbour porpoise, and sperm whale, were recorded. The common dolphin was the commonest species, followed in decreasing occurrence by striped and bottlenose dolphins, pilot whale, harbour porpoise, Cuvier's beaked whale, and...

Distribution of clay minerals in surface sediments off Yangtze River estuary. OceanDocs
Lan, Xianhong; Zhang, Zhixun; Li, Rihui; Wang, Zhongbo; Chen, Xiaohui; Tian, Zhenxing.
Based on the clay minerals, content analysis from 187 stations in the surface sediments, this paper dealt with the assemblages and the distributions of clay minerals in the surface sediments off the Yangtze River estuary. The research results showed that the illite dominates the surface sediments off the Yangtze River estuary with the smectite or kaolinite the second rank and chlorite the third rank; the illite-smectite- kaolinite- chlorite-assemblage is the main type of the clay minerals assemblage in the area, with the illite-kaolinite-chlorite-smectite -type as the second rank; the source of clay mineral is mainly from the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. The Q-type cluster analysis show that sediments from both recent and ancient Yellow River were...

Distribution of epiphytic macroalgae on the thalli of their hosts in Cuba Acta Botanica
Diez García,Yander Luis; Jover Capote,Abdiel; Suárez Alfonso,Ana María; Gómez Luna,Liliana María; Fujii,Mutue Toyota.
We investigated the distribution of epiphytic macroalgae on the thalli of their hosts at eight localities along the southeastern coast of Cuba between June 2010 and March 2011. We divided he epiphytes in two groups according to their distribution on the host: those at the base of the thallus and those on its surface. We determining the dissimilarity between the zones and the species involved. We identified 102 taxa of epiphytic macroalgae. There were significant differences between the two zones. In 31 hosts, the number of epiphytes was higher on the surface of the thallus, whereas the number of epiphytes was higher at the thallus base in 25 hosts, and the epiphytes were equally distributed between the two zones in five hosts (R=−0.001, p=0.398). The mean...

Distribution of the species of Dipturus Rafinesque (Rajidae, Rajinae, Rajini) off Brazil and first record of the Caribbean skate D. teevani (Bigelow & Schroeder), in the Western South Atlantic Zoologia
Gomes,Ulisses Leite; Picado,Simone da Silva.
The Caribbean skate Dipturus teevani (Bigelow & Schroeder, 1951) is recorded for the first time from Brazilian waters. The specimen was collected in the continental slope off Bahia State. With this record, four species of Dipturus Rafinesque, 1810 are known from Brazil: D. chilensis (Guichenot, 1848), D. leptocauda (Kreft & Stehmann, 1975), D. trachyderma (Krefft & Stehmann, 1975) and D. teevani (Bigelow & Schroeder, 1951). They are typical inhabitants of deep waters between the outer shelf edge (195-200m) and the slope (more than 500m). Although morphologically conservative, the species of Dipturus can be distinguished from each other by the number of dorsal and nuchal thorns, the number of caudal thorns, dorsal and ventral...

Distribution of Vibrio alginolyticus-like species in Shenzhen coastal waters, China BJM
Chen,Ming-Xia; Li,He-Yang; Li,Gang; Zheng,Tian-Ling.
We investigated the distribution of vibrios in Shenzhen coastal waters in order to obtain valuable information for the aquaculture industry and a health warning system. Quantities of vibrios from surface waters ranged from 0 to 4.40×10(4) CFUs mL-1 in April (spring), while from 0 to 2.57×10³ CFUs mL-1 in September (autumn); the abundance of V. alginolyticus-like species from surface water ranged from 0 to 6.72×10³ CFUs mL-1 in April (spring) and from 0 to 1.28×10³ CFUs mL-1 in September (autumn); higher counts were observed in spring. The V. alginolyticus-like species was dominant in Shenzhen coastal waters, with the highest abundance in the clean region (stations YMK001 and GDN064) in April, suggesting that Vibrio spp. were naturally occurring bacteria in...

Distributional patterns and possible origin of leafhoppers (Homoptera, Cicadellidae) Zoologia
Nielson,Mervin W.; Knight,William J..
The zoogeographical distribution of 42 cicadellid subfamilies and their assigned tribes and genera is compiled with distributional maps and proposed dispersal pathways of genera that are shared interzoogeographically. Possible origin of the subfamilies and tribes is proposed in an ancestral context from which the more modern extant groups evolved whereas origin of genera is in a more modern context. Notwithstanding their complex biogeography, the distributional data of the higher groups indicate that all of the cosmopolitan and near cosmopolitan subfamilies arose during early Cretaceous or possibly the late Jurassic period (140-116 m.y.a.) when continental drift was in its early stages. Nearly all of the New World and some Old World subfamilies are...

Distributional patterns of the American Peiratinae (Heteroptera: Reduviidae) Naturalis
Morrone, J.J.; Coscarón, M. del C.
Based on distributional data of 40 species of Peiratinae, historical relationships of five Amazonian areas (Paranaense, Atlantic, Pacific, Amazonian, and Cerrado) and two Chacoan areas (Chaco and Caatinga), were investigated through a parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE). The resulting area cladogram indicates the following sequence of area fragmentation: (Cerrado (Caatinga (Chaco, ((Pacific, Amazonian), (Atlantic, Paranaense))))). It is proposed that these results reflect the gradual development of a diagonal of open formations (Chaco-Cerrado-Caatinga), which separated the former continuous tropical forest into two parts, namely, northwestern (Pacific plus Amazonian) and southeastern (Paranaense plus Atlantic).

Diversity of Biomphalaria spp. freshwater snails and associated mollusks in areas with schistosomiasis risk, using molecular and spatial analysis tools Biota Neotropica
Palasio,Raquel Gardini Sanches; Xavier,Iara Giordano; Chiaravalotti-Neto,Francisco; Tuan,Roseli.
Abstract: The Middle Paranapanema River region of São Paulo, Brazil is home to significant diversity of Biomphalaria species and is very vulnerable to health and environmental impacts such as schistosomiasis. This study updates freshwater malacological surveys for ecosystems in one portion of the Middle Paranapanema River Basin, with emphasis on the genus Biomphalaria. Snails were collected from 114 distinct bodies of water between 2015 and 2018. Biomphalaria specimens were identified according to morphological and molecular characteristics, while animals in other genera (Drepanotrema, Lymnaea, Melanoides, Physa and Pomacea) were identified solely according to shell characteristics. A geographic information system was used to update intermediate host...
